In 1899 Charles H. Duell, the Commissioner of the US Patent
Office declared that, “Everything that can be invented has
been invented.”
Sadly for Charles Duell, progress did not come to a grinding
halt in 1899 and man kind has made some remarkable strides
forward in the last 100 or so years. Currently it is generally
considered that the sum total of human knowledge doubles every 2
to 3 years (some estimates will put this figure as low as 18
months, whilst others will cite 5 years). Which ever figure is
correct, our knowledge of our universe continues to grow
exponentially.
At Novalab, we like to think we are a little more open minded
than Mr. Duell. We are constantly looking at options and new
products, testing materials and considering new design
initiatives. We want to play our part in this ever expanding
knowledge base by providing the best possible laboratory
environments and work spaces.
Or as another ex patent office clerk once put it, “Imagination
is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to
all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the
entire world, and all there ever will be to know and
understand.” Albert Einstein.
What's New
May 2010
Over the years Novalab has not only gained a reputation for the
quality of products we offer, but also for our ability to
respond to the variety of manufacturing demands placed on us.
Our manufacturing and installation crews are well known for
completion of projects to an exceptionally high standard and on
time, even in the most adverse of circumstances.
Part of this capability is our CNC manufacturing, which provides
accurate finished bench tops and panel products, quickly and
efficiently. However, even with this capability, by early 2010
our work load was such that our lead times, even on small
projects, were stretching out to 8 weeks and it was becoming
obvious that we needed to improve on this.
As part of our commitment to our clients and our on going
philosophy of continuous improvement, Novalab have just
installed one of the most up to date CNC machines available. Our
new Rover C machine is the most advanced pod and rail machine
yet installed by Biesse New Zealand.
The machine has the capacity to take full 3,600 mm x 1,800 mm
sheets and in one operation can cut, separate cut sections, edge
finish, cut sink and tap holes, prepare joints for on site
installation and various other machining operations that may be
required.
New software not only allows for programmed cutting
instructions, but can also cut direct from Auto Cad drawings in
DXF format, so complex shapes are easily achieved.
Our new machining capacity will help to reduce lead times, offer
greater versatility in our manufacturing programs and maintain
Novalab’s position as market leaders in the manufacture and
installation of quality laboratory furniture.
