IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SPECIFICATION OF EYE WASHES AND SAFETY SHOWERS
Please read the following information carefully before specifying eye wash and safety shower equipment.
The New Zealand laboratory standard calls for a safety shower and eye wash in every laboratory where hazardous substances are used.
No one working with hazardous materials should be more than 10 metres away from a safety shower and eye wash.
These can be supported by, but not replaced with, a supplementary hand held trigger spray. The definition of what constitutes an eye wash and trigger spray differ in certain markets around the world, which is why the Carlos Arboles web site and catalogues refer to hand held trigger sprays as eye washes.
For the purpose of the New Zealand market, these items are not classed as eye washes, but as supplementary hand held trigger sprays.
It is very important to note the definition given to an eye wash and safety shower in the New Zealand Standard. “The safety shower and eye wash or eye/face wash facility shall be capable of operation so that water flow remains constant without requiring the use of the operators hands.” This effectively rules out trigger sprays and squeeze bottles for this application.
