Where stainless steel is used for applications involving
aggressive chemicals, we recommend the use of grade 316
stainless and only if the following housekeeping measures
can be strictly adhered to.
Chemicals should not be allowed to remain on the work
surface for any length of time. Any spills or residues
should be wiped up immediately and the area cleaned with
large quantities of clean water. The work surface should
then be dried immediately with a clean soft cloth.
Benchtops
Stainless Steel

Where a high level of mechanical demand is placed on the bench tops,
we can supply stainless steel. In particular, we have supplied
stainless steel bench tops into roading and construction
laboratories where materials testing is less about chemicals, but
more about heat and abrasion.
The 2 most common types of stainless are:
- Grade 304 is more commonly used for domestic products and should not be used for any laboratory where chemicals are used.
- Grade 316 is more corrosion resistant than 304 and usually referred to as “Marine Grade”. Where 316 is used in chemistry applications, good housekeeping practices must be followed or corrosion problems may develop.
